One of the passages we looked at last week was in Hebrews chapter 13:v15,16
"Through Jesus, therefore let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise...and do not forget to good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased"
This seems to imply our lives are to be God-centred and others-centred and both are seen as areas of sacrifice.
Isn't that what leading a Christian life is all about. Not being selfish and concentrating on ourselves. Aren't we to love others as God loved us. Shouldn't we be making that sacrifice in our lives to do something for someone else?
1 John 4 10-12 This is what love is : it is not that we have loved God,but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the means by which our sins are forgiven. Dear friends,if this is how God loved us, then we should love one another. No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in union with us, and his love is made perfect in us.
In verse one Paul says ' Be imitators of God as his dearly loved children '.
As children learn from their parents, we must learn from God and be like Him.
This gets more challenging in verse 2 as we are told to ' Walk in love, as Christ also loved us and gave his life for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God.'
We said this prayer together on Friday. You may want to use it again.
' I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart. I offer my soul to be a living sacrifice. I will proclaim righteousness in the great assembly. I will not seal my lips. I will speak of your faithfulness and salvation. I will not conceal your love. Pour your Spirit upon each one of us.'
God loves us and anyone who loves God loves his brother. If we can show love to our enemies as well as others in Christ we must be on the right road for giving sacrifice to the One True God. His son Jesus Christ showed us the way do do this. But brothers and sisters it is not easy.
