The Next Move .....

Exciting and challenging times are ahead of us.

Our congregation has decided to have meetings in places other than our church building...next Friday we will gather at St Marks but the following week we will be in the pub.

Can we really worship God and meet the community and missional aspects of being church in this way ?

Prayer and exploration with our group has really given me itchy feet and a sense of excitement about this.

Well, there should be a few comments from our Christian brothers as you venture out of your comfort zone. This reminds me of a gag I heard several weeks ago. A Christian walks into a pub and says to the Bartender ' Do you serve Jews ?' The Bartender says' Certainly Sir'
The Christian says' Well in that case, I'll have an orange jews, with ice!'

Haven't a bunch of Christians tried it in a pub before here in Bradford. It didn't work so I have heard. Wasn't he called Robyn Gimble?

Robin Gamble "hired" a pub (The Cock and Bottle). But the brewery decided after some time that it wasn't as profitable as they would like so the lease ended.

I don't think we're talkign about that kind of thing here :o)

Love the picture. Doesn't it prove the church are slow, just like a snail, and that when trouble is on the horizon it retreats and goes into its shell. It becomes self focusing within its safe environment rather than sticking things out and moving forward. Don't be like a snail, please !!!!

I think you'll find snails are fascinating creatures, that move a lot quicker than people think! And their shells are fantastic works of art that are there to be admired!!!!

Does that mean the church is a fantastic piece of work that should be admired? Or does the church need a new home? I wonder what the everyday person in the street would think. Squash the church or admire it for what it does.

Yeh the church should be admired!....and at the same time,if it wants to move around,it's more than capable of doing so!

But what should it be admired for. It's not exactly doing a good job at the moment. I would say it is hiding in its shell. It's about time it got out of its shell and got moving into the comunities that surround it. May be the pub is the first move. Where next?

well Jesus started the church how long ago??.....and it's still going today...... is that not something to be admired?

Maybe so, but its not exactly growing is it. It's not exactly reaching those who need to hear about Jesus. We just keep looking inward at our buildings and repairing roof's, replacing chairs. etc. When what we should be doing is taking nothing with us into the communities and just sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with the poor and needy.
