Following Simon's tale last night. What does 'I AM WHO I AM' mean ?

I think it is almost a way of saying "I don't need a name" because I am God. (The Hebrew can also mean "I will be who I will be")
"I am" suggests to me that God just IS... it's the most basic fact about everything and everything else follows from that.
