Reflection : What have We Learned From Exodus?

Last night we had the biggest turn out ever for the Friday Service since we moved to the pub (we're not boasting.. it was less than 20) as our look at Exodus came to an end.
So what have we learned along the way?
We split into two groups for discussion last night and our group particularly talked about Moses' Shiny Face! We felt that it would be easy to focus on the "miracle" of Moses face instead of the God who it reflected. The first 4 commandments are all about putting God at the centre, and we were struck by this quote:
Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
(Exodus 34v14)
Would anyone else like to comment on what they have learned in Exodus? Comment below!

At first I was not sure how much I wanted to look at all those boring old laws from Exodus 21 onwards - no relevance to today!

How wrong I can be.

Detailed study shows a lot of interesting commands that have echoes in today's world. Even "boiling a kid in it's mother's milk" has relevance if we take it to look closely at not following the customs of where we are.

The bit about the Tabernacle brought home how much effort went into making everything just right for God.

Also the sorry tale that the Israelites kept on repeating the same old sins and harking back to their time in Egypt. Lessons for us in that we often find our past less easy to shake off even though we know it was not for the best.

So on to Leviticus - more laws and a little bit of narrative (I have looked!)
