Buildings can be interesting
Well, a better attended and more interesting meeting than I thought tonight...
"Architecture" - strange title for a Alternative Worship service evening!
But two questions for you to respond to, by clicking on "comment" below:
1. Where does the balance lie berween these two options:
(A) We have a shabby, functional church that prompts the visitor to say "So that's what you think of your God!" (see Ezra complining that God's temple was a mess when people lived in nice houses)
(B) We have a stunningly beautiful building with no expense spared that prompts the visitor to say "How can you waste money on this when there are poor people starving?" (see Judas' response to the lavish perfume spent on Jesus)
2. The Old Testament talks a lot about the detail for building the temple. What does that have to say to us in the New Covenant, especially when you think that most of the Israelites only came to the temple once a year!
