Last Friday Comic relief on the television really highlighted to millions of us that we live in a world where there is much poverty and injustice.
Jesus told his disciples ' The poor will always be among you' (Matt 26:11)
Did God intend a world of oppression, disease, starvation and misery ?
Are we to simply tolerate this as the way things are ?

No! I donot think God intended the world to be this way but he knew that it would be, because of the sins of men. God made enough recourses in the world for no one to go hungry. It is mens failure to not keep gods will. The sins of greed, envy, pride that lets these things happen. Not loving thy neighbour as thy self?
I think you are right.Jesus told his disciples 'the poor will always be among you' as a reminder that we have failed to keep Gods commands (Deut 15:4-5)
