Soulmates ?

What a strange world the Old Testament seems at times.

Last week we thought about God asking someone to sacrifice their child. This week it's someone finding a bride for their son (not their daughter, mind you - how odd...).

Does this really have much to say to us in our modern world where we marry the person we 'fall in love' with?

Now there's a question...

..does the Bible have anything to say about "arranged marriage".

I'm told it's not commanded by the Koran.

But is marrying for love a modern idea?

The story of Rebekah and Isaac was an interesting one: and we have to ask how much of it represents the culture of the day and how much we can learn from it.

As Derek put it "descriptive" or "prescriptive".

I liked the analogy with Isaac's offering for sacrifice (Gen22), then not heard of then meets his bride which was ready for him: a parallel with Christ's offering on the cross, ascension and then a second coming when he meets up with his bride - the church.

Arranged marriages:

thanks to Nigel for leading us to this one.

Possibly one way out is to remain single! It seems that problems either way a love marriage or an arranged mariage for this 13 year old.
